MONT D’OR AOC – “VACHERIN DU HAUT-DOUBS” – JURA
One type of Vacherin cheese is called Mont d’Or, or Vacherin du Haut-Doubs, from France.
The Vacherin “Mont d’Or” is a unique cheese with an almost runny consistency and a rich, creamy flavour.
Cheese season: September to March.
Mont d’Or is a seasonal cheese made from quality raw milk, matured for 21 days and made from August to March.
Mont d’Or is conserved in its original package stored in the least cold compartment of the refrigerator. It can be eaten cold or warm. The best way to taste its soft and creamy paste is with a spoon directly from the package. Generally, Mont d’Or can be tasted at the end of a meal, but it is much appreciated heated in its package and accompanied by smoked sausages or on warm potatoes. It is ideal with white and red wines from Jura, Savoy and Jurançon.
