Earthy and Flavourful Dried Morel Mushrooms

Mushrooms add flavour and an interesting profile to dishes. Whether in soups or sautéed, they are a remarkable ingredient to have. In this blog post, we introduce the Dried Morel Mushroom and a few simple recipes to prepare them. They are a type of wild mushroom with an earthy, nutty flavour. They have a meaty texture, unlike the more slimy texture of other mushroom varieties. These mushrooms are a highly desired ingredient among chefs and mushroom enthusiasts.

Morels vary greatly in size and appearance. Their shape can range from oblong to bulbous, and their colour from blonde to grey. Here, we share some quick and easy ways to cook Dried Morel Mushrooms in order to get the most of out them.

Note: morel mushrooms must be cooked, do not consume them uncooked.

Fried: this method is best with whole or large pieces. You have to soak the dried morel pieces in milk for about 20 minutes until you can gently bend them. While the mushrooms are still soaking, prepare a cast iron skillet on medium heat and douse the surface with oil. Next, coat te mushrooms with all-purpose flour and place them into the skillet. Cook for a few minutes until they are crispy and give off a light fragrance. Season with salt and pepper and put a few dollops of butter over them for that sweet creamy taste!

Melangé With Onions: this method is so simple but it packs a whole punch of flavours! Prepare some yellow onions and caramelise them in a pan over low heat with some butter and a sprinkle of salt. Remember to stir the contents occasionally to prevent them from getting burnt. Next, add the dried morel mushrooms when the onions begin to show some translucency. When the onions slightly stick to the pan, add some chicken or beef stock. For extra oomph, add some sherry. We promise this is going to be so flavourful!
